Pasco County reopening more parks and trails for recreation

PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — Pasco County Parks is reopening additional limited-access areas on Wednesday, May 6.

Last Saturday, the county reopened Anclote River Park, Anclote Gulf Park, Eagle Point Park, Moon Lake Park and Robert K. Rees Memorial Park.

The county says it works to "slowly and safely reopen county locations with limited services," after Governor Ron DeSantis unveiled phase 1 of his plan to reopen Florida.

The additional openings include walking and fitness trails, open space areas (excluding athletic fields), outdoor tennis courts and outdoor basketball courts at the following facilities:

  • Land O' Lakes Heritage Park, Land O' Lakes
  • Land O' Lakes San Antonio Athletic Complex, Land O' Lakes
  • San Antonio Veteran's Memorial Park, San Antonio
  • Hudson Wesley Chapel District Park, Wesley Chapel

Federal and state social distancing/gathering guidelines remain in place at all county parks and athletic complexes that reopened. Groups of more than 10 people will not be permitted. Social distancing of six feet remains necessary to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

All athletic fields, playgrounds, shelters and pavilions remain closed until further notice to ensure the safety of county employees and residents.

The county is continuing to explore options to safely offer Summer Day Camp. Officials say it camps are offered this year, it will likely be at a reduced capacity with limited space. A final decision on whether the camps will be held is expected within the next two weeks.

Pasco County previously eopened the following parks in late April:

  • Key Vista Nature Park, Holiday
  • Aripeka Sandhills Preserve, Hudson
  • Lake Lisa Park, Port Richey
  • Boy Scout Preserve, New Port Richey
  • Pasco Palms Preserve, New Port Richey
  • Crews Lake Wilderness Park, Spring Hill
  • Upper Pithlachascotee Preserve, Spring Hill
  • Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park, New Port Richey
  • Robert J. Strickland Memorial Park, Hudson
