Cub Scout Pack 104, sponsored by the First Presbyterian Church in Canton, held its annual Blue and Gold Celebration on Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Presbyterian Church.

The celebration was opened with the presentation of the colors led by the graduating Webelos II den. The Pledge of Allegiance was given and the Tiger, Wolf and Bear dens gave the Cub Scout Promise and the Webelos dens gave the Boy Scout Oath.

David Haddad, Heartland District Scouting Executive talked about the FOS (Friends of Scouting) program, stating that it takes $216 a year to keep a boy in scouting. The monetary gifts given through the FOS helps with camps, training of leaders, and having trained camp staff, etc.

Year pins were given to scouts and leaders ranging from one year to five years for scouts and scout leaders received pins for four years to 30 years of service.

Bobcat and Tiger awards were given to Aden Bockoven, Myles Frame, Ethan Harrison, Grant Kessler, Max Krus, Zachary Lingenfelter, Carter Parsons and Hayden Wright. The scouts receiving their Bobcat badge were then “branded” with a “B” and asked to remember what they had to learn to receive their Bobcat award.

Following the Bobcat and Tiger awards, the Wolf awards were then given out. Those receiving this award were John Davis, Shea Dudek, Jaidyn Hooker, Michael Sprague Jr., Gabriel Thompson, Daniel Vollmar, Kacey Wheeler and Austin Wilcoxen.

The next award given out was the Whittling Chip. This award is given to third grade boys who have completed the course on how to use and take care of a knife. The scouts then had to carve a bar of soap. The scouts who earned their Whittling Chip and received a pocket knife were Keith Adams, Nathaniel Danz, Avery Dry, Joshua Eveland, Ashton Hand, Ian Howell, Anthony Joachim, Alexander Johnson, Andrew Krus, Dylan Martin, Joseph Murphy and Darren Woods. These scouts also were awarded their Bear Badge and Gold and Silver Arrow points.

The Webelos Badge and Artist and Fitness Activity Pins were awarded to Hayden Lee, Carson Lindsey, Peyton Lindsey, Donavan Lingenfelter, Dylan Lyons, Dillon Price, Andrew Quick, and Beau Slayton. These scouts make up the Webelos I den.

Awards given to the Webelos II den included  activity pins and belt loops. The main award given to these scouts was the highest award a boy can earn in Cub Scouts. That award is the Arrow of Light. The scouts receiving this award also received the Super Achiever Patch by earning all 20 Activity Pins. These scouts are Quentin Frame, Robert Howell IV, Matthew Kessler, Derek Meier, Alexander Ruck, Brenen Seward and Ethan Watkins. These scouts participated in the Crossover ceremony crossing the Pack Bridge to two Boy Scout Troops. Crossing over to Boy Scout Troop 124 were Matthew Kessler, Derek Meier, Alexander Ruck and Brenen Seward. Crossing over to Boy Scout Troop 104 were Quentin Frame, Robert Howell IV and Ethan Watkins. The scouts were welcomed in to the troops by Scoutmasters Scott McCoy, Troop 124, and Robert Howell II, Troop 104.

Pack 104’s next Pack meeting will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Monday, March 25, at 7 p.m. At this meeting the scouts who sold $500 or more of scout popcorn will get to put a whipped cream pie in the face of one of the leaders.
